These days, most wedding photos end up on hard drives and are never looked at again. A painted wedding portrait, on the other hand, hangs on the wall for 30 years and reminds us of that special moment every single day.

When should you give a gift?

Recommended Format for Weddings

Weddings are often formal occasions. Opt for a larger size—80×100 cm to 100×140 cm. The picture should eventually adorn a central wall, not get lost in a corner.

What needs to come across in the photo

• Both people should be clearly recognizable in the foreground
• The background can be interchangeable—for example, the wedding venue, the registry office, or a neutral setting
• The outfit should be timeless enough (classic > trendy) so that the photo will still look good 20 years from now

Birthday — the perfect gift for someone who already has everything

When it comes to milestone birthdays—40, 50, 60, 70—many people face the same dilemma: what do you give someone who hasn't expressed any specific wishes in years?

A painted picture completely avoids this problem. It is:

• One-of-a-kind (not something you can just say, "I already have one")

• Long-lasting (not a disposable item that will end up in a drawer in six months)

Note: Portraits of people

Giving someone a portrait of themselves is risky—many people don’t like seeing themselves on the wall. If the portrait is supposed to be of the person you’re giving it to, ask them discreetly first if that’s what they want. Family portraits or commemorative images are a safer bet.

Anniversary / milestone birthday

For major anniversaries, the painting can be organized as a joint gift from the entire family or group of friends. Advantages:

• A larger budget → better quality, larger format
• Several people can provide input during the briefing → the image will be more accurate for that person
• A stronger emotional impact—everyone has witnessed the image being created

Practical tip

Collect contributions at least 2 months before the occasion. That leaves enough time for placing the order, painting (2-5 weeks), drying and shipping. Tight timing can put the occasion at risk.

Christmas — the non-material gift

For many people, Christmas has become exhausting these days because there are so many consumer goods. A hand-painted picture breaks with this expectation—it’s slow, personal, and goes against the grain.

Important: For Christmas, you need to Order by early November at the latestso that processing time and shipping ensure timely delivery. For express orders, we can sometimes accommodate requests until mid-November, but with very little leeway.

Obituary / Memorial Photo

A commemorative photo is a very special gift. It must be handled with care, as it touches on an emotionally charged situation. Notes:

• Early stages after a loss: Sometimes the bereaved person wants nothing. Sometimes that very image helps. It depends on the individual situation.
• Later stage (months to years): Here, the picture is often seen as a meaningful gift—it says, “I still think of your mother / father / partner.”
• A gift from several people: For families, this often works better than a single gift—it shows that their grief is shared.

Birth / Christening Gift

A baby photo makes a wonderful keepsake portrait—but here’s a tip: wait 2–3 months before placing your order so you end up with really great baby photos. Photos taken right after birth often aren’t ideal for this purpose.

Classic: a photo of the newborn with the parents, or a family photo for the christening. Even a photo of a sleeping baby on its own can be very powerful.

Corporate Events / Employee Gifts

Rare but highly effective: a painting as a farewell gift for long-time employees, a corporate portrait for the reception area, or a painting of the company headquarters. Such works of art foster a sense of identity and appreciation that a standard gift basket simply cannot match.

What to keep in mind when giving gifts

1. A surprise—or a joint decision?

A painted portrait is a personal choice. Some people want to have a say in the decision—the format, the style, and which photo will serve as the model. Others prefer the element of surprise. Ask yourself:

• Do you know that person's tastes well enough to decide on your own?
• Or would it be better to give the person a “gift certificate” and let them choose the photo, size, and frame themselves?

2. Photo availability

To order the photo without the recipient knowing, you'll need a good photo. Options:

• Take photos discreetly at family gatherings (don't rush; ideally, make sure the lighting is good)
• Ask another family member to help (they often already have some good photos)
• For very old photos: Take a photo of the old print with your phone—we can handle that

3. Packaging and Delivery

We pack each picture securely in high-quality gift wrapping. If desired, we can also include a handwritten card. Tip for presenting the gift: if the picture is large (>80×100 cm), present it beforehand and wrap it where it will be unwrapped—otherwise, unwrapping it in front of all the guests will be quite cumbersome.
